| Spot of the Sun |
If we observe the Sun by projection its image through a pair of binocuars onto a white piece of cardboard, we would see that it has black spot on it, these are known as ‘Sun apot’. These black spots are areas which get cooled down on the Sun’s surface because of the pull from the Sun’s own magnetic field acting upon that area.

Sun spot generally appear in groups and a group May be eight to ten times bigger than the Earth and may last as long as ten years. The center of the Sunspot is known as the ‘umbra’ and the area surrounding it is called ‘penumbra’. The umbra is the coolest area in the Sun spot and generally has a temperature which is about 1000° centigrade lower than the temperature on the Sun’s surface.
